Here at FBS, we love shooting perfume, as it’s the perfect mix between creative and technical. You can be imaginative with the concepts, but you still need the knowledge and skill to light and shoot glass effectively.
Harlowe Parfum came to FBS to ask us to shoot ecommerce, as well as styled product and talent content for the launch of their brand. We were so excited to work with owner Terri Barakat and her art director, Jen Boxer. Terri and Jen came up with a thorough brief which helped the shoot run super smoothly.
Working as a team we organised talent, hair & makeup, stylist, wardrobe, props and lighting equipment according to the brief. Each scent had its own signature style, so we made sure to liaise with Harlowe on all creative aspects throughout the pre-production process.
We started with the full day styled product shoot, working with one of our preferred stylists who was able to bring Jen and Terri’s concept to life. We worked with hundreds of fresh flowers, fog machine, beach sand, jewellery, an acrylic prop ice cube that was hand made in the US as well as other props to give a real sense of life to the shots, and the client couldn’t have been happier with how they came out.
The talent shoot was another full day in our studio – with 2 models, multiple wardrobe changes, hair and makeup and lighting/set changes. We had done a test shoot earlier in the month to ensure that we were approaching each shot in the most effective way – this is a great option if you have a large shoot coming up and need to fit a lot in to one day.
eCommerce photography is deceptively complex – especially when shooting glass, reflective or sheer objects. It’s important to have an experienced and technically savvy photographer for this reason. We’re so excited to show the results of this project, and look forward to shooting more campaigns like this in the future!
